Automotive UX Design

Peugeot-Citroen

Overview and Role and Contributions

In the fall of 2017, I embarked on an exciting journey with PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) after being invited by my manager at Harman. This opportunity arose because Harman had sold developer services to PSA, who showed a keen interest in the UX design expertise of our division, recognized for our successful cases in automotive industry user experience development.

As a UX Designer, I joined the PSA design team, embarking on regular long-term trips to their engineering center in Velizy, a suburb of Paris. Over three years, I collaborated closely with nearly all teams, from connectivity and ADAS to the multimedia user experience design team.

Challenges and Learning

From 2018 to 2020, I primarily focused on the multimedia team until the project's completion. My responsibilities included designing user flows, diagrams, and creating highly detailed prototypes and specifications in Axure. This comprehensive approach ensured that all design decisions were grounded in user needs and business objectives.

Being part of the Multimedia team, I was tasked with creating user flows and prototypes for testing the user experience. The job was challenging yet highly rewarding, requiring the alignment of documentation with a wide array of stakeholders. This experience not only honed my UX design skills but also enhanced my ability to work effectively within a diverse and multinational team.

Impact and Expansion

The successful collaboration with the PSA team led to a decision to expand our company's staff on-site. As a result, six of my UX designer colleagues from Harman's Indian division joined the project to support the increasing workload. I played a crucial role in training these colleagues on project documentation nuances and overseeing the quality of their work. This significantly accelerated the process of creating visual artifacts and UX documentation in Axure.

User Flows, Prototypes, and UX Documentation

During the PSA project, a large number of user flows, interaction diagrams, detailed Axure prototypes, and UX specifications were created to support the development of the multimedia experience. The work focused on defining end-to-end user scenarios, screen logic, and interface behavior for testing, validation, and cross-team alignment. Each artifact was produced with a high level of detail to ensure that design decisions reflected both user needs and business requirements. This resulted in a structured and scalable body of UX documentation that streamlined collaboration across international teams, accelerated production of visual deliverables, and provided a strong foundation for implementation.

Conclusion

Working with PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) was a pivotal experience in my career as a UX designer. It allowed me to deepen my expertise in the automotive industry, collaborate across cultures, and contribute to creating user-centered design solutions that enhance the driving experience. This project stands as a testament to my ability to navigate complex projects, drive innovation, and deliver impactful user experiences.
